Rick van Niekerk is one the students in the football class. He is an experienced player since he started at the age of five. A friend has spoken very much about her fantastic year at another folkehøyskole and when Rick did not know exactly what to do this year she recommended folkehøyskole in Norway.

-For me it was quite natural to choose a school with a football class and Haugetun seemed very attractive. That choice has not been regretted. We train a lot and we play many matches.

Our team is quite good and sometimes I wish that we could meet stronger teams. More resistance would have been useful both for the players and the team.

According to Rick it is almost impossible to explain what it is like at a school like this.

-You have to see and experience by yourself, Rick says. –We learn a lot also outside the school lessons. Many people living together like this teaches you a lot about human beings.

It is not easy to get bored here. If you really want to you can be active all the time at school or outside. You can sit in your room if want to and think that nothing happens or you can leave the room and be a part of something happening, Rick thinks.

After the year at Haugetun he wants to play football at a highest possible level. Beside that he wants to study. Anthropology and journalism are among the actual choices. It is not unlikely that he is going to stay in Norway after having left Haugetun.
